Rabbi-Cantor
Marci Vitkus
About your Officiant
I have officiated over 200 Jewish/Interfaith weddings in places near and far. I began officiating when a colleague took a position in Italy. With eight weddings scheduled after her departure date, she recommended me to officiate! Best training ever...eight weddings in nine weeks. It was magical and I have never looked back.
I consider myself truly lucky to have this amazing job that doesn't feel like a job! I have served my congregation since 2001, first as the cantor and now as rabbi-cantor. The deep cantorial roots in my family, going back 17 generations, make this career feel extra fulfilling and extraordinarily "full-circle".
Why do I officiate?
-
Because I believe in the sanctity and beauty of marriage
-
Because I believe everyone deserves the right to marry the person they love
-
Because it thrills me to make a personal, warm, meaningful ceremony
What do I officiate?
Primarily, my niche is Jewish/Interfaith ceremonies. I believe anyone who wants Judaism in their life should never be told they aren't "jewish enough" or jewish in the right way. Plus I have been happily married for 27 years to a non-Jew. I know it can and does work.
I started officiating secular wedding ceremonies after a friend asked me to officiate her wedding. I find secular weddings to be every bit as spiritual and meaningful as religious weddings.
I am thrilled to officiate same sex weddings. All I can say is it is about time I am able to do so legally!
